Venice carnival: Arianna Fontana, godmother of Milano Cortina 2026

On Sunday 3rd March, Arianna Fontana, short track champion, jumped from the belltower of San Marco church in Venice, waving the flag of Milano Cortina 2026 in the traditional flight that takes place during the Venice Carnival celebrations.

Waiting for her as she landed, the mayor Luigi Brugnaro and the deputy mayor for traditions, Giovanni Giusto. Arianna's flight represented a message of good hope to support the candidature for the Olympic Winter Games and provided worldwide visibility to our bid.

Arianna Fontana said: "It has been a unique experience, I was breathless. Looking at the square from the top I felt a strong emotion, which I'd like to repeat one day. I am really happy that the city of Venice is on our side for the candidature of Milano Cortina to host the Olympic Winter Games in 2026, it is great to have the support of this unique city. Hopefully we will take this victory home, I wish many Olympians the opportunity to live this experience in their country".
