From 1st to 6th April, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission visited the venues in Italy where the Olympic Winter Games will be hosted in 2026, in case the vote on 24th June will favour our country.
A very busy week with a tight schedule and many places to visit. From Venice, where the Commission members landed, the tour moved on to various places such as Anterselva, Baselga di Pinè, Bormio, Cortina, Livigno, Milan and Val di Fiemme.
The Italian mountain areas indeed have the capability to host an event so important as the Olympic Winter Games.
The IOC Evaluation Commission visit in Italy was wrapepd up by a press conference at Palazzo Marino in Milan that was attended by all the representatives of the public institutions involved. In that occasion, the president of the Evaluation Commission Octavian Morariu described the Italian candidature as a "strong" one and added that "In all the cities we have visited, we met Italian athletes and organisers who know what they are doing and have a passion for what they do".
Now, Italy awaits the final decision of the International Olympic Committee, that will be taken on 24th June in Lausanne, Switzerland.
